Preface
This is the second edition of No. 0.15 of a series of Standards issued by the Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It is written in SI (metric) units. This edition supersedes the first edition published in 1990.
It is intended that this Standard be referenced by interested groups such as the Subcommittees of Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code, in their standards-writing activities. The utilization of the test procedures included in this Standard will serve to standardize the diversified test requirements for the various types of adhesive labels and nameplates.
Significant changes from the first edition include the following:
(a) the scope is revised to cover only permanent labels. Removeable Type D labels are therefore deleted from the Standard;
(b) the inclusion of requirements for overlaminating films for use with specific constructions;
(c) several definitions are revised, including definitions for Type A, B, and C labels;
(d) the reference publications are updated;
(e) there is a general rearrangement and clarification of label test requirements in the new Clause 4;
(f) there is a revised Table 1, Substrate groupings;
(g) Table 2 contains several corrections;
(h) the elevated temperature exposure condition is revised to allow a choice of several test temperatures;
(i) the fading test method is revised;
(j) the heat-cold-humidity cycling test for plastic substrates is new;
(k) weatherometer conditioning is relocated and revised;
(l) the indoor wet location condition is new;
(m) marking requirements are revised; and
(n) Appendix B on testing of thick labels is new.
This Standard was prepared by a Subcommittee of the Technical Committee on General Requirements under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, and was formally approved by these Committees.
