This is the second edition of CSA Standard Z168.5.1, Anaesthesia Ventilators. It supersedes the first edition, published in 1987 as CAN/CSA-Z168.5.1.
This Standard is one of a series of Standards based on CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 601. 1, Medical Electrical Equipment - Part 1: General Requirements for Safety and its supplements (the General Standard). This type of Standard is referred to as a Particular Standard, and as stated in Clause 1.3 of the General Standard, the requirements of this Particular Standard take precedence over those of the General Standard.
This Standard was prepared by the Working Group on Anaesthesia Ventilators under the jurisdiction of the Technical Committee on Anaesthetic Equipment and Respiratory
Technology, and was formally approved by both the latter and the Standards Steering Committee on Health Care Technology. It will be submitted to the Standards Council of Canada for approval as a National Standard of Canada.
