Driven by industry demand for technicians proficient in tasks related to high-voltage electric vehicles, and with industry collaboration, CSA Group developed the Automotive Electric Vehicle Technician Certification which recognizes those individuals equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely diagnose, inspect, maintain, and repair high-voltage OEM or converted electric vehicles. This program aligns with industry requirements, fostering a consistent, national workforce committed to safety.
The certification program aims to provide consistent guidelines for North American high-voltage electric vehicle technicians.

Prerequisites
- Canada: Current AST Red Seal or equivalent
- Equivalent in Quebec:
- Parity committee of the automotive services industry (CPA) Certification Journeyman Mechanic Class 3, or
- AEP/STC Certification in Electric Vehicles or Competence VE Certificate”
- Equivalent in Quebec:
- U.S.: ASE-Certified Master Automobile Technicians (A1-A8– Automobile and light truck certification tests) and L3 Hybrid Electric
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
When your application is submitted and accepted by CSA Group, you will have 6 months to complete the certification process.
You will be permitted to challenge the written exam up to two additional times if necessary, for a total of three times per application. Additional sitting fees are applicable for second and third exam attempts as necessary.
Fees submitted with your initial application cover the application fee and one examination attempt.
Once you have passed the exam and have earned certification, you will be listed on CSA Group's People Search database of certified personnel.
