Course Overview
The CSA Z8004 standard provides requirements for safe operation, infection prevention, and control of long-term care homes. This Standard is intended for use by operational staff, infection prevention and control personnel, directors of care, architects, designers, engineers, governmental bodies, and residents and families.
This online self-directed training will provide an overview of the CSA Z8004:22 standard and its application to all policies and procedures in long-term care homes. It presents policies for day-to-day operations and catastrophic events. Operations and management of long-term care homes incorporate input from Long-Term Care Home staff, residents, caregivers and families, and incorporation of resident choice and cultural practices.

- Describe the fundamental policies and procedures for operations in long-term care homes
- Explain what is meant by person-centred care, and apply the foundational principles to their role
- Explain considerations and procedures applying to visitors to the long-term care home
- Discuss how nutrition and mealtimes are important to the physical and cultural wellbeing of residents
- Describe appropriate communication methods between long-term care home staff, residents, caregivers, and families
- Define the role of the transdisciplinary assessment team, and who must be on this team
- Discuss long-term care home building systems and operations including waste management and security
- Support the creation and implementation of a contingency plan and catastrophic event management plan
- Identify required training and simulation for main roles in the long-term care home
