Course Overview
This course is part of the CSA Group Modular Online Training Program. This online course provides an overview of Section 56 in the 2021 Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1. Rather than reviewing the Code in its entirety, this course is designed to provide an overview of Section 56 of the CE Code.
This Section applies to the installation of optical fiber cables in conjunction with electrical systems and supplements or amends the general requirements of this Code.
A certificate of achievement is provided upon completion of the course.
For nearly 90 years, the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I has been and continues to be a comprehensive model Code that provides guidance to help make electrical installations and equipment safer.
Learning Objectives
After taking this course, you will be able to:
- Determine specific requirements for the installation of optical fiber cables.
- Recognized fiber cables installed adjacent to or in the same raceway and enclosures as components of electrical systems that may pose or contribute to a fire or shock hazard.
- Distinguish between the three types of fiber optic cable and those that do and do not pose an electrical shock hazard.
- Identify requirements of non-conductive and conductive optical fiber cables.
- Determine the importance of inspection and handling of fiber optic cable.
- Detect the materials used in routing and grounding of fiber optic cable.
