Product Details
Preface
This is the fifth edition of No. 31 of a series of Standards issued by the Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It supersedes previous editions published in 1939, 1958, 1965 and 1972.
The scope of this new edition has been extended to cover switchgear assemblies rated up to and including 46 kilovolts. Requirements for low—voltage bus extensions and collectors, service-entrance switchgear, reduced capacity taps, and an additional requirement for the protection of personnel
have also been included.
Changes in Clauses from the previous edition are indicated by a vertical line in the margin of the Clause. Editorial changes such as the renumbering or relocation of a Clause are not marked.
This Standard was prepared under the jurisdiction of the Committee on CE Code, Part II, which is subsidiary to the Committee on CE Code, Part1, and was formally approved by these Committees.
Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to indoor open and enclosed 'and outdoor enclosed assemblies of switchgear devices such as switches, interrupting devices, control, metering, protective and regulating equipment with associated interconnections and supporting structures, for potentials of 46 kilovolts and less, intended to be used in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part1, in ordinary (non—hazardous) locations, for controlling and protecting the power from generators or other sources and supplying electrical energy to power and lighting circuits.
1.2
This Standard does not apply to panelboards, industrial Control equipment, switchboards for communication circuits (see Canadian Electrical Code, Part1), or switchgear assemblies consisting of separately supported enclosed switches, enclosed circuit—breakers, and possibly service meters, with wiring between them enclosed in conduit, wireway, or some approved equivalent.
Note: Manufacturers and installers of switchgear assemblies approved under this Standard should take due note of Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, with respect to the location of switchgear in areas where certain components may not be acceptable in such locations.
