    CSA Preface

    This is the second edition of CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60079-5, Explosive atmospheres — Part 5: Equipment protection by powder filling q, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 60079-5 (fourth edition, 2015-02). It supersedes the previous edition published in 2011 as CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60079-5 (adopted IEC 60079-5:2007). It is one in a series of Standards issued by CSA Group under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code.

    For brevity, this Standard will be referred to as CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60079-5 throughout.

    This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60079-0, Explosive atmospheres — Part 0: Equipment — General requirements.

    Changes in this edition include the removal of Canadian deviations that are no longer applicable.

    The fourth edition of the IEC Standard includes the following changes:

    a) relaxation introduced to permit reduced distances through filling material;

    b) relaxation introduced to permit use of the creepage dimensions of IEC 60079-7 under certain conditions; and

    c) the addition of a batch routine test.

    This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.

    Scope

    This part of IEC 60079 contains specific requirements for the construction, testing and marking of electrical equipment, parts of electrical equipment and Ex components in the type of protection powder filling q, intended for use in explosive gas atmospheres.

    NOTE 1 Electrical equipment and Ex components protected by powder filling q can contain electronic circuits, transformers, protection fuses, relays, intrinsically safe electrical apparatus, associated electrical apparatus, switches, etc.

    NOTE 2 Type of protection powder filling q provides Equipment Protection Level (EPL) Gb or Mb.

    This standard supplements and modifies the general requirements of IEC 60079-0. Where a requirement of this standard conflicts with a requirement of IEC 60079-0, the requirement of this standard takes precedence.

    This standard applies to electrical equipment, parts of electrical equipment and Ex components with:

    – a rated supply current less than or equal to 16 A;

    – a rated supply voltage less than or equal to 1 000 V;

    – a rated power consumption less than or equal to 1 000 W.

    Préface CSA

    Ce document constitue la deuxième Ă©dition de la CAN/CSA-C22.2 nº 60079-5, Atmosphères explosives — Partie 5 : Protection du matĂ©riel par remplissage pulvĂ©rulent «q». Il s’agit de l’adoption, avec exigences propres au Canada, de la norme IEC (Commission Électrotechnique Internationale) 60079-5 (quatrième Ă©dition, 2015-02) qui porte le mĂªme titre. Il remplace l’édition antĂ©rieure, publiĂ©e en 2011 qui portait la dĂ©signation CAN/CSA-C22.2 nº 60079-5 (norme IEC 60079-5:2007 adoptĂ©e). Il fait partie d’une sĂ©rie de normes publiĂ©es par le Groupe CSA qui constituent le Code canadien de l’électricitĂ©, Deuxième partie.

    Par souci de brièvetĂ©, tout au long de ce document, il sera appelĂ© «CAN/CSA-C22.2 nº 60079-5».

    Cette norme est conçue pour Ăªtre utilisĂ©e de concert avec la CAN/CSA-C22.2 nº 60079-0, Atmosphères explosives — Partie 0 : MatĂ©riel — Exigences gĂ©nĂ©rales.

    Parmi les changements apportés à cette édition, il y a le retrait des exigences propres au Canada qui ne sont plus applicables.

    Voici les principaux changements apportés à la quatrième édition de la norme IEC :

    a) un assouplissement des exigences qui a été introduit pour autoriser des distances réduites entre matériaux de remplissage ;

    b) un assouplissement des exigences qui a été introduit pour autoriser l’utilisation des lignes de fuite dans certaines conditions selon la norme IEC 60079-7 ; et

    c) l’ajout d’un essai individuel par lot.

    Cette norme est jugée convenable à l’évaluation de la conformité selon le domaine d’application établi dans la norme.

    Cette norme a été élaborée conformément aux exigences du Conseil canadien des normes concernant les Normes nationales du Canada. Cette norme a été publiée en tant que Norme nationale du Canada par Groupe CSA.

    Domaine d'application

    La prĂ©sente partie de l’IEC 60079 contient les exigences spĂ©cifiques de construction, d'essais et de marquage d'appareil Ă©lectrique, des parties d'appareil Ă©lectrique et des composants Ex Ă  remplissage pulvĂ©rulent, mode de protection q, destinĂ©s Ă  Ăªtre utilisĂ©s dans des atmosphères explosives gazeuses.

    NOTE 1 L'appareil électrique à remplissage pulvérulent, mode de protection q et les composants Ex peuvent contenir des circuits électroniques, des transformateurs, des fusibles de protection, des relais, des matériels électriques de sécurité intrinsèque, des matériels électriques associés, des interrupteurs, etc.

    NOTE 2 Le mode de protection par remplissage pulvérulent q procure un Niveau de Protection du Matériel (EPL1) Gb ou Mb.

    La présente norme complète et modifie les exigences générales de l’IEC 60079-0. Lorsqu’une exigence de la présente norme diverge d’une exigence de l’IEC 60079-0, l’exigence de cette norme prévaut.

    La présente norme s'applique aux appareils électriques, aux parties d'appareil électrique et aux composants Ex avec:

    – un courant assigné d'alimentation inférieur ou égal à 16 A;

    – une tension assignée d'alimentation inférieure ou égale à 1 000 V;

    – une puissance consommée assignée inférieure ou égale à 1 000 W.
