Preface
This is the second edition of CSA C22.2 No. 247, Operators and systems of doors, gates, draperies, and louvres. It supersedes the first edition published in 1992. It is one of a series of Standards issued by the CSA Group under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code.
The changes to this edition include
a) new requirements for permanent wiring;
b) mechanical switch or relay used in an entrapment protection circuit moved from the residential garage door and door operator systems section to a general section; and
c) clarification of sensitivity test apparatus, including update to Figure 9.

This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the Standard.
This Standard was prepared by Subcommittee on Garage Door Operators, under the jurisdiction of the Technical Committee on Consumer and Commercial Products and the Strategic Steering Committee on Requirement for Electrical Safety, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee.
Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to electrically-powered door opening devices and other opening and closing appliances rated at 600 V or less and intended to be used in nonhazardous locations in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
1.2
This Standard gives requirements for complete doors, gates, and other such assemblies that include electrically-powered opening and closing appliances.
1.3
This Standard specifies requirements for accessories, such as external entrapment protection devices, for use with appliances covered by this Standard.
1.4
The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only.
1.5
In this Standard, shall is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; should is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and may is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard.
Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.
Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements.
Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
