CSA Z1002 - Occupational Health and Safety - Hazard Identification and Elimination and Risk Assessment and Control
Worker fatalities, injuries, and illnesses have a significant impact on society and the economy yet many organizations have difficulty with effectively assessing and controlling workplace safety risks. There currently exists over one-hundred risk assessment models across legislations, in standards, and in guidance documents with confusing terminology.
This can lead to misunderstood or misinterpreted information being used to make critical organizational decisions regarding risk tolerance. CSA Z1002 helps to bring clarity by focusing on protecting workers through hazard identification, control and elimination where possible. This new standard puts forward the structure for improved worker safety and provides employers with a framework for successful implementation of risk assessment methodologies that can be incorporated into their existing OHS Management System.
Highlights of Z1002 Include:
- Aligns with OH&S Management System principles contained in Z1000
- Applies to organizations of any size and can be applied at all stages in the lifecycle of a product, process, or service
- Focuses on hazards that can be eliminated as well as control of those that cannot be eliminated
