This is the second edition of CSA B651.1, Accessible design for automated banking machines. It supersedes the first edition published in 2001 under the title Barrier-Free Design for Automated Banking Machines.
This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.
This Standard specifies accessibility requirements for automated
banking machines (ABMs) and ABM sites.
Note: While the purpose of this Standard is to make ABMs or their environment more accessible, there might be some people with disabilities who have requirements beyond the scope of this Standard.
This Standard specifies technical requirements applicable to the
design and manufacture of
(a) wall-mounted ABMs;
(b) stand-alone ABMs; and
(c) ABM sites.
This Standard does not apply to drive-through ABMs.

In CSA Standards, shall is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; should is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; may is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and can is used to express possibility or capability. This Standard is written in SI (metric) units and, where converted from imperial units, the units have been rounded off with respect to critical dimension.
