Preface
This is the third edition of CSA Standard 294.2, Hearing Protectors; it supersedes previous editions published in 1974 and 1979. It covers earplugs, earmuffs, and communication
headsets. The sound attentuation requirements for the three levels of performance specified in Table 1 of the 1974 edition have been revised in this edition to reflect the differences obtained in measurements of attentuation using the real-ear threshold-shift procedure in a semi-diffuse field with one-third octave bands of noise rather than in a free field with pure tones. In addition, Appendix A has been rewritten to include a guide for the correct selection, fit, care, and use of hearing protectors.
Scope
1.1 General
This Standard covers performance requirements for personal earing protection devices.
Note: A guide for the selection, fit, care, and use of hearing protectors as required for an effective hearing conservation program is presented in Appendix A.
1.2 Types
The following types of hearing protectors are covered in this Standard: earplugs, earmuffs, and communication headsets.
