Preface
This is the second edition of CAN/CSA-ISO/TS 14798, Lifts (elevators), escalators and moving walks - Risk assessment and reduction methodology, which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Technical Specification 14798 (second edition, 2006-02-01). It supersedes the previous edition published in 2001 as CAN/CSA-ISO/TS 14798, Lifts (elevators), escalators and passenger conveyors - Risk analysis methodology (adopted ISO/TS 14798:2000). At the time of publication, ISO/TS 14798:2006 is available from ISO in English only. CSA will publish the French version when it becomes available from ISO.
Scope
This Technical Specification establishes general principles and specific procedures for assessing risk. The purpose of this Technical Specification is to provide a process for making decisions relevant to the safety of lifts during the . design, construction, and installation of lifts, lift components, and systems; - developing generic procedures for the use, operation, testing, compliance verification, and servicing of lifts; and - development of technical specifications and standards affecting the safety of lifts.
While examples in this document refer primarily to risks of harm to persons, the risk assessment procedure set out in this document can be equally effective for assessing other types of risks relevant to lifts, such as the risk of damage to property and environment.
