Scope
1.1.1
This standard covers gas-fired refrigerators having refrigerated spaces for (1) storage of foods, or (2) storage of foods and making ice, or (3) storage of frozen foods and making ice, or (4) storage of foods and the storage of frozen foods and making ice, hereinafter referred to as refrigerators or appliances. It applies to newly produced refrigerators constructed entirely of new, unused parts and materials:
(a) for use with natural gas;
(b) for use with propane;
(c) convertible for use with natural gas and propane for residential use;
(d) for installation in mobile housing or recreational vehicles for use with propane only; and
(e) for installation in mobile housing or recreational vehicles convertible for use with natural or propane gases when provision is made for the simple conversion from one gas to the other.
The construction of refrigerators is covered in Part I.
The performance of refrigerators is covered in Part II.
Definitions are covered in Part III.
1.1.2
This standard also covers all electrical equipment, wiring and accessories built in or supplied with gas-fired refrigerators for use with low-voltage direct current or alternating current. Appliances for use with alternating current shall be nominally rated 120 V, 60 Hz.
1.1.3
Refrigerators for use with gas fuel that are also for use with electricity shall also comply with the applicable provisions of the current Canandian Electrical Code, Part II.
1.1.4
This standard applies to those refrigerators provided with a direct, self-contained type of system employing the absorption or adsorption principle of refrigeration.
1.1.5
This standard applies to those refrigerators that are designed to use Group 2 refrigerants in quantities not exceeding 6 lb. (2.72 kg). Group 2 refrigerants include, but are not limited to the following:
Refrigerant systems shall comply with the applicable provisions of the current CSA B52, MECHANICAL REFRIGERATION CODE.
1.1.6
This Standard contains SI (Metric) equivalents to the yard/pound quantities. The purpose being to allow the Standard to be used in SI (Metric) units. If a value for measurement as given in this Standard is followed by an equivalent value in other units, the first stated is to be regarded as the requirement. The given equivalent may be approximate. If a value for a measurement and an equivalent value in other units are both specified as a quoted marking requirement, the first stated unit, or both shall be provided.
1.1.7
A direct vent refrigerator anticipated by this standard is a design option of the manufacturer and is an essentially balanced flue appliance, with the air intake and vent outlet in proximity. Other direct vent designs shall be subjected to such additional tests as believed necessary at the discretion of the testing agency.
1.1.8
A refrigerator that complies with this standard shall not be considered acceptable if it has features that impair the results contemplated by this standard.
1.1.9
Refrigerators not covered by this standard may be tested to the intent of this standard and additional requirements may apply.
