Scope
This part of ISO/lEC 7826 specifies a general structure for the identification of coding schemes for thepurpose of information interchange,
using international coding scheme identifiers (ICSls). Any code value resulting from the application of such a coding scheme tan thus be
given an unambiguous meaning by association with the ICSI value.
This part of ISO/IEC 7826 does not specify the mechanism for the association of ICSI value and code value and is therefore independent of Syntax used in
interchange. lt should have wide applicability among users of data elements.
Specification of the coding schemes themselves and aspects on technical implementation in interchange, like internal procedures, file organization techniques,
storage media, encoding rules, languages, etc., are outside the scope of this patt of lSO/lEC 7826.
