Medical Oxygen Concentrator Central Supply System for Use With Nonflammable Medical Gas Piping Systems
Product Details
Preface
This is the first edition of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-Z305.6, Medical Oxygen Concentrator Central Supply System: For Use with Nonflammable Medical Gas Piping Systems. It is one of the 2305 Series on Medical Cas Systems.
The purpose of this Standard is to specify the minimum requirements for a medical oxygen concentrator(s) used as part of a health care facility (HCF) medical gas system. The emphasis is on the safe and reliable operation of the medical gas system serving the oxygen requirements of the HCF. Included are requirements for planning, sizing, location, installation, commissioning, and oxygen purity.
This Standard concerns itself only with the safe delivery of an acceptable grade of medical oxygen. The concentration of oxygen, as with any other drug, remains the responsibility of the health care professional and regulatory authorities. The selection of oxygen 93 per cent versus oxygen is a medical decision outside the scope of any CSA Standard. This Standard is not to be construed as an endorsement or recommendation of one concentration of oxygen over another.
The use of a medical oxygen concentrator may result in the automatic mixing of oxygen 93 per cent and oxygen as the system utilizes either the secondary or reserve supply. To date, the automatic mixing of oxygen 93 per cent and oxygen has not been proven to be of clinical significance. However, users, including physicians, should be advised that the gas from the terminal unit may be a blend of oxygen 93 per cent and oxygen.
This Standard was prepared by the Technical Committee on Oxygen Concentrators under the jurisdiction of the CSA Standards Steering Committee on Health Care Technology. This Standard has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council of Canada.
Scope
1.1
This Standard specifies the minimum requirements for a medical oxygen concentrator central supply system for use as a source of supply in a nonflammable medical gas piping system which complies with CSA Standard Z305.1.
1.2
Small, portable, domiciliary units are not included within the scope of this Standard.
1.3
This Standard also specifies minimum performance and safety requirements for the primary, secondary, and reserve supplies; control equipment and alarms; and pressure regulating apparatus; along with ancillary equipment necessary to complete a medical gas central supply system.
1.4
In this Standard, shall indicates a mandatory requirement, and should indicates a recommendation, or that which is advised but not mandatory. Notes accompanying clauses do not include mandatory or alternative requirements. The purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material that is not properly a part of the Standard.
