    CSA Preface

    This is the first edition of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-E968, Self-ballasted lamps for general lighting services — Safety requirements, which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled CEI/IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standard 968:1988 (first edition, 1988), including Amendment 1:1991.

    This Standard was reviewed for Canadian adoption by the CSA Technical Committee on International Standards under the jurisdiction of the Strategic Resource Group, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. A list of the members of these Committees is available upon request. This Standard has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council of Canada.

    Scope

    This standard specifies the safety and interchangeability requirements, together with the test methods and conditions, required to show compliance of tubular fluorescent and other gas-discharge lamps with integrated means for controlling starting and stable operation (self-ballasted lamps), intended for domestic and similar general lighting purposes, having:

    - a rated wattage up to 60 W;

    - a rated voltage between 110 V and 130 V;

    - E26 Edison screw caps.

    The requirements of this standard relate only to type testing.

    Recommendations for whole product testing or batch testing are under consideration.

    This standard applies to self-ballasted lamps intended for use in lighting equipment, designed to be installed on branch circuits not exceeding 750 V and used in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, (CEC), Part I.

    Note: Manufacturers designing products for use in Canada may find a helpful summary of the equipment-related requirements of the CEC, Part I, in CSA publication SPE-2000.

    This standard is concerned only with safety criteria and does not take into account the performance of self-ballasted lamps with respect to luminous flux, life, or power consumption characteristics. Readers should refer to IEC 60969 and CAN/CSA-C861 for such characteristics with respect to types normally used for general lighting services.

    Preface CSA

    Ce document constitue la première édition de la norme CAN/CSA-E968, Lampes à ballast intégré pour l'éclairage général— Prescriptions de sécurité. Il s'agit de l'adoption, avec exigences propres au Canada, de la norme internationale de la Commission Electrotechnique Internationale CEI/IEC 968:1988 (première édition, 1988), y compris l'Amendement 1:1991 , qui porte le même titre.

    Cette norme a été révisée en vue de son adoption pour le Canada par le Comité technique CSA sur les normes internationales, sous l'autorité du Groupe ressource stratégique et a été approuvée par le Comité technique. Une liste des membres de ces comités est disponible sur demande. Cette norme a été approuvée comme Norme nationale du Canada par le Conseil canadien des normes.

    Domaine d'application

    La présente norme spécifie les prescriptions de sécurité et d'interchangeabilité ainsi que les méthodes et les conditions d'essais prescrits pour démontrer la conformité des lampes tubulaires à fluorescence et autres lampes à décharge à dispositif intégré d'amorçage et de stabilisation du fonctionnement (lampes auto ballastées) destinées à l'éclairage domestique et similaire et ayant:

    - une puissance nominale inférieure ou égale à 60 W;

    - une tension nominale de 110 V à 130 V;

    - un culot à vis Edison E26.

    Les prescriptions de la présente norme ne concernent que les essais de type.

    Les recommandations pour le contrôle de la production totale ou le contrôle par lot sont à l'étude.

    La norme vise les lampes à ballast intégré (auto ballastées) à utiliser avec du matériel d'éclairage, et installées sur des dérivations ne dépassant pas 750 V et conformes au Code canadien de l'électricité, Première partie.

    Note. Les fabricants qui conçoivent des produits pour le marché canadien pourront trouver un résumé utile des exigences relatives aux appareils du CCE, Première partie dans la publication CSA SPE-2000.

    Cette norme ne vise que les critères de sécurité et ne porte pas sur le rendement des lampes à ballast intégré en ce qui a trait au flux lumineux, à la durée de vie utile ou à la consommation d'énergie. Voir les normes CEI 60969 et CAN/CSA-C861 pour les caractéristiques de performances des appareils pour l'éclairage général.
