Scope
1.1
This Standard prescribes requirements for the cl assification of carbon steel covered electrodes for shielded metal arc welding.
Note
Inch-pound equivalents are given in brackets. In case of dispute, the metric values shall rule.
1.2
Electrodes covered by this Standard are classified according to the
(a) chemical requirements of undiluted weld metal (Table 1);
(b) electrode covering and the usability characteristics of the electrode (Table 2);
(c) mechanical properties of the weld metal, in the as-welded condition (Table 3); and
(d) positions of welding for which the electrodes are suitable.
1.3
Any electrode certified under one classification shall not be certified under any other classification.
