Scope
1.1
This Standard covers the following devices intended for connection to copper conductors only and for installation and use in hazardous locations: Class I, Groups A, B, C, and D; Class II, Group G, in coal or coke dust, and in gaseous mines for installation and use in accordance with the Rules of Canadian Electrical Code, Part I and CSA Standard CAN3-M421:
(a) receptacles with attachment plugs;
(b) receptacles with attachment plugs interlocked with circuit breakers;
(c) receptacles with attachment plugs interlocked with switches;
(d) cable and cord connectors, couplers, and fanged equipment power inlets and flanged equipment power outlets with ratings as specified in Clause 1.2.
1.2
This Standard covers devices rated not more than 600 A or more than 600 V ac and 250 V dc. This Standard also covers equipment for gaseous mines rated not more than 1100 V ac.
1.3
This Standard does not cover a straight pull plug and receptacle/connector that does not incorporate either a delayed withdrawal or an interlock mechanism. Note: In this Standard devices that are classified for Group G locations are acceptable for use in atmospheres containing coal or coke dust.
