Scope
Section A - Transformers for Luminous-Tube Signs
A1.1 This section applies to transformers for luminous-tube signs of portable and stationary types, for potentials up to and including 600 volts low-potential, and l5,000 volts open-circuit high-potential, designed to be employed in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
It includes:
(a) outdoor types - Enclosed, non-weatherproof construction intended for use within the enclosures of signs;
(b) indoor types:
(i) enclosed, including pendent-type transformers (and standing-type transformers); and
(ii) open or skeleton-type transformers; and
(c) reactors, if supplied as part of a transformer.
Having sealed-in (ie, compound-sealed) windings.
A1.2 Transformers covered by this Section for use as auxiliary equipment for signs used for general advertising and display purposes.
Section B - Transformers for Oil- or Gas-Burner Ignition Equipment
B1.1 This Section applies to transformers for oil- and gas- burner ignition equipment for potentials up to and including 600 volts low-potential, and 15,000 volts open-circuit high- potential, designed to be employed in accordance with the rules of t he Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
Note: The terms low-potential and high-potential are used herein, respectively, for primary or low-voltage, and secondary or high-voltage.
B1.2 Transformers covered by this Section are intended for use as auxiliary equipment for oil- and gas-burning apparatus. /
Section C - Transformers for Cold-Cathode Interior Lighting
C1.1 This Section applies to transformers for cold-cathode, high-voltage, luminous tubing, for potentials up to and including 600 volts low-potential and 15,000 volts open-circuit high-potential, designed to be employed in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
Note: The terms low-potential and high-potential are used herein for primary or low-voltage and secondary or high- voltage respectively.
It includes:
(a) (i) Enclosed transformers having sealed-in windings; and
(ii) Open or skeleton-type transformers; and
(b) Reactors, if supplied as part of a transformer.
C1.2 It does not apply to transformers for lighting systems under 1,0 00 volts.
