1. Scope
1.1 General
This Standard applies to the commissioning of fire protection systems in health care facilities. It is a companion document to the other Standards in the CSA Z318 Series of Standards.
1.2 This Standard is intended to assist the commissioning team in the preparation of a commissioning plan. This plan specifies commissioning requirements and project coordination for newly installed or renovated fire protection systems. This plan includes but is not limited to the following:
(a) the human and financial resources required to accomplish commissioning of the fire protection system; and
(b) the responsibilities of the commissioning team; and
(c) the timing and integration of the commissioning process.
1.3 Application
For the purpose of this Standard, fire protection systems include the active and passive systems that contribute to providing protection from fire and smoke, including
(a) suppression systems;
(b) fire alarm and detection systems;
(c) emergency voice communication systems;
(d) smoke management systems;
(e) fire and smoke separations (including closures and hardware);
(f) egress systems; and
(g) emergency power systems.
