What is a request for interpretation?

An interpretation is a written clarification of the meaning of a provision of a CSA Standard, provided by the responsible Technical Committee in response to a written request for an interpretation. An interpretation may address either the literal text or the intent of the text of a standard.

Who can submit a request for interpretation?

Requests for interpretation of CSA Group Nuclear Standards may be submitted by anyone.

When can I submit a request for interpretation?

Requests for interpretation of CSA Group Nuclear Standards may be submitted at any time.

Note: Requests for interpretation cannot be considered if the matter is known to be before the courts or an administrative tribunal. The period during which a matter is considered to be before the courts or an administrative tribunal includes the time from which formal steps are taken to begin a proceeding in the relevant forum to the expiry or disposition of all appeals.

What will happen after I submit my request for interpretation?

Following a preliminary check by CSA staff, your request for interpretation will be forwarded to the applicable Technical Committee for review.  A response will be issued once the committee has considered the request.

Note: The process for formal approval of the interpretation requires a minimum of 21 days.
