CSA International and CFM Corporation Announce Recall of Fireplace Remote Receivers

In cooperation with CSA International, CFM Corporation of Mississauga, Ontario is voluntarily recalling 1000 Majestic Vermont Castings fireplace remote receivers. The circuit board of the receivers can overheat and catch fire, posing a burn and fire hazard. CFM Corporation has received four reports of the remote receivers catching fire and causing minor property damage.

The Majestic Vermont Castings fireplace remote receivers were sold with the HES40R and HES40 electric fireplaces/stoves and sold as accessoris for CFM DEF33/36, DEF36S2, Addision, DEF36 and HE32EF electric fireplaces and stoves. The recalled remote receivers have the words “Majestic Vermont Castings” on a label affixed to the face of the receiver . Model number ERX15B can be found on the CSA approval sticker on the back of the remote receiver. CFM part number for the receiver is ERC1.

Fireplace retailers sold these remote receivers nationwide from November 2001 to February 2004.

Consumers who purchased an ERX15B remote receiver as an accessory to their fireplace should immediately unplug the unit.
