CSA International and Groupe SEB Canada Inc. Announce Voluntary Recall of T-Fal “Maxi-Fry” Deep Fryers

July 27, 2005

CSA International, in co-operation with Groupe SEB Canada Inc., supplier of T-Fal branded appliances, has announced a voluntary recall of approximately 40,000 T-Fal “Maxi Fry” deep fryers model numbers FF100250 and FF100651 sold in Canada. A loose connection at the internal terminal block may not have been securely tightened to the correct torque requirements and could cause the terminal block to overheat.

Groupe SEB Canada Inc. has received 12 consumer reports involving over-heated terminal blocks resulting in kitchen countertops receiving minor damage. There have been no reports of a fire or injury involving these fryers. Groupe SEB Canada Inc. is urging consumers to stop using the deep fryers immediately.
The T-Fal branded deep fryers in question can be easily identified by the product name “Maxi Fry” on the front panel and model number marked on a gray CSA label affixed to the base (bottom) of the deep fryer. The recalled T-Fal “Maxi Fry” deep fryers model numbers FF100250 and FF100651 were manufactured in 2003, 2004 and 2005, with a production date code prior to the 19th week of 2005 as indicated 1905 on the nameplate (ie. FAB 1905).

All other T-Fal branded deep fryers are not subject to this recall including the “Maxi Fry” units with a blue coloured dot located on the base of the deep fryer or “QC” label on the top panel of the retail carton.Consumers having one of the recalled deep fryers, are asked to call Groupe SEB Canada Inc. Toll free number 1-866-316-3325 between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM EST, Monday to Friday, or email at [email protected] to arrange to have their deep fryer inspected, and if necessary, repaired free of charge. Before calling, consumers are advised to write down the model number and date code of their deep fryer.
