In cooperation with CSA International, Vandem Industries Inc. of Cambridge, ON, announced today the voluntary recall of approximately 6,710 ft of their 4 inch cast iron soil pipe marked “Qiaoshan – Vandem”. Samples of the 4 inch cast iron soil pipe were found to fail the hydrostatic pressure test with evidence of pinhole leaks occurring.

The manufacturer has received no reports of leaks related to this product in the field.

The 4 inch cast iron soil pipe affected by this recall bears the manufacturer’s tradename of “Qiaoshan – Vandem”. No other sizes of cast iron soil pipe bearing this tradename are affected by the recall.

The affected 4 inch cast iron soil pipe was sold primarily in Quebec from May 2006 to August 2006 and bears date coding of “03/06”.

Distributors should immediately quarantine all affected 4 inch cast iron soil pipe bearing the “Qiaoshan – Vandem” tradename and contact Vandem Industries at 1-877-681-1444 for instructions on how to obtain a replacement for the defective pipe or write to Vandem Industries at 105 Sheffield Street, Cambridge, ON N3C 4B1.

Contractors should immediately stop installing the recalled 4 inch cast iron soil pipe and contact Vandem Industries as noted above for instructions on how to obtain a replacement for the defective pipe.

For pipe that has already been installed, the pipe should be validated through an on-site pressure test normally stipulated for inspection and acceptance of the pipe. Any 4 inch cast iron soil pipe bearing the “Qiaoshan – Vandem” tradename that fails this test should be removed and Vandem Industries should be contacted as noted above for instructions on how to obtain a replacement for the defective pipe.
