Wipro’s Tarang Lab and Canada’s CSA Group to collaborate to provide testing services in India

Wipro Technologies, the Global Information Technology, Consulting and Outsourcing business of Wipro Limited (NYSE: WIT), announced today that Wipro’s Tarang – Product Qualification and Compliance Lab and CSA Group, a global testing, certification and standards development organization headquartered in Canada, will collaborate and leverage their business resources for providing localized testing and certification services in India. The agreement with CSA Group enables Wipro to provide compliance testing and certification services to companies developing products in India for international markets in diverse fields, such as information technology, medical, test and measurement, laboratory, industrial control equipment, etc.

In a typical product development cycle where the testing and certification is around 6-12 weeks, this Wipro-CSA collaboration will help product companies speed up the product testing and certification by 20-30 per cent.

According to a United Nations Industrial Development Organization report entitled Yearbook of Industrial Statistics 2010, India is one of the top ten manufacturing economies in industrial production. The Wipro-CSA agreement minimizes the need for Indian customers to ship products elsewhere for compliance testing.

Elaborating on the growing need for testing and certification services in emerging markets such as India, Dr Ishwardutt Parulkar, Director of Engineering at Cisco, says, “Wipro’s Tarang lab is providing world class expertise in product testing and certification, locally, and the alliance with CSA Group makes Wipro product testing and certification capabilities even more compelling for technology developers in India. The Lab has benefited Cisco significantly and Cisco has been using these facilities successfully for some key products under development.”

The collaboration with Wipro’s Tarang state-of-the-art testing laboratories for CSA Group means reliable access to product markets, especially in emerging nations such as India. “This agreement with Wipro will serve to further enhance CSA Group’s business in Asia by establishing a presence in one of the most high-tech testing laboratories available not only in India but internationally,” says Ash Sahi, President and CEO, CSA Group. “By providing clients with services right in the heart of one of the world’s fastest growing manufacturing bases, we will be able to help reduce their overall costs and increase their time to market.”

“Wipro is excited about becoming a testing and certification laboratory for CSA Group in India and Asia. This close association with CSA Group makes Wipro’s Tarang Lab a testing powerhouse providing product compliance testing and certification,” says Vasudevan Aghoramoorthy, Vice President, Semiconductor and System Solutions, Wipro Technologies. “This collaboration will attract global customers, especially in the APAC region, to Tarang lab. While product tests happen in Tarang, customers have the choice of availing other services offered by Tarang Lab like EMI/EMC testing, environmental testing, reliability testing and product verification and validation under a single roof and bring down their design cycle time further.”

Wipro’s Tarang lab has been an NABL (ISO/IEC 17025) (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) accredited facility for two years now, equipped to perform various safety, mechanical, thermal, acoustic, reliability and electro-magnetic interference/ compatibility related testing and consultancy services. Wipro provides testing and certification services on a broad range of globally accepted product standards, including, IEC/EN, DO160, UL, FCC, CSA, SAE, JASO, ISO, MIL, ASTM and NEBS.
