CSA Group-Sira Launches New Independent Laboratory Performance Testing of Water Monitoring Instrumentation for the Environment Agency’s Monitoring Certification Scheme (MCERTS)

CSA Group, a leading global provider of testing and certification services and a standards development organisation, launches new independent  MCERTS laboratory performance testing, expanding services for manufacturers to fulfil their environmental responsibilities.

The MCERTS scheme provides a framework for environmental measurements to be made and assessed for compliance against the Environment Agency’s mandatory requirements. Testing and certification for environmental monitoring instrumentation is important as it is the first step to ensure reliable monitoring data.

“CSA Group-Sira has 40 years of experience evaluating the performance of instrumentation, and we have successfully implemented the MCERTS Scheme on behalf of the Environment Agency since its introduction over 15 years ago,” said Ian Rippin, Managing Director UK, CSA Group. “This new service will complement existing MCERTS certification schemes we offer and provide a one-stop shop for product certification and laboratory performance testing of water monitoring equipment.”

The Environment Agency has published performance standards for Continuous Water Monitoring Systems (CWMS) and Portable Water Monitoring Systems (PWMS), which can be downloaded from www.mcerts.net. CSA Group–Sira offers independent laboratory testing against the MCERTS performance standards for the following monitoring equipment:

  • Continuous Water Monitoring Systems (CWMS):
    • Part 1: Water Samplers  according to BS EN 16479:2014
    • Part 2: Online analysers  including conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, turbidity
    • Part 3: Water flowmeters and Level sensing flowmeters
  • Portable Water Monitoring Systems (PWMS):
    • Portable Water Monitoring Equipment – including conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, turbidity

CSA Group-Sira operates MCERTS on behalf of the Environment Agency. MCERTS schemes are designed to promote public confidence in monitoring data and provide industry with a proven basis for choosing monitoring systems and services that meet the Environment Agency’s performance requirements. CSA Group-Sira provides product certification, site inspection and personnel certification under MCERTS. It also offers a training program to educate customers on what services are required.

CSA Group-Sira will be exhibiting at the Water, Wastewater and Environmental Monitoring (WWEM) trade show on November 5 and 6. Environmental experts will be available to explain the certification schemes and help operators and manufacturers to understand the testing and certification requirements.
