The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), CSA Group, and UL Environment today announced the publication of AHAM 7005-2016/CSA SPE-7005-16/UL 7005 Sustainability Standard for Household Clothes Drying Appliances, the first voluntary sustainability standard for household clothes drying appliances.

This standard was the fifth in a family of product sustainability standards under development by AHAM, CSA Group, and UL Environment. It serves as an objective and practical measurement tool to assist clothes dryer manufacturers in evaluating the environmental sustainability of home appliances. The standard is intended for use by manufacturers, governments, retailers, and others to identify environmentally preferable products and is based on a lifecycle approach for identifying the environmental impacts of clothes dryers in five key areas: energy, materials, end-of-life, consumables, and manufacturing. Other major appliance standards are under development and are expected to be published later in 2016.
