CSA Group, a leading global provider of standards development, product testing and certification services, together with the Canada China Business Council (CCBC), Embassy of Canada and Baker & McKenzie, held a seminar today in Beijing under the theme “Building Supply Chains for the Future”. RJ Falconi, Executive Vice President, Government Relations, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, CSA Group, Hélène Vaillancourt, Executive Vice President, Technology and Engineering Department of the CSA Group, Jiang Yi, Vice President, CSA Group China & Hong Kong, Christopher MacLean, Counselor (commercial), Embassy of Canada to China, Yijun Song, Counselor Commercial, Ontario, Canadian Embassy, Isbella Liu, Partner, Baker McKenzie, and  Daniel Cheng, Managing Director of CCBC attended the seminar.

“This year marks the first time CSA Group held a seminar in China under the theme “Building Supply Chains for the Future”. We are looking forward to working more closely with Chinese industry associations and expanding our relationship with the government of the People’s Republic of China,” said RJ Falconi, Executive Vice President, Government Relations, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, CSA Group.  “We will continue to promote and support standards development in China and deliver high quality and innovative services to Chinese market via our internationally recognized expertise and world renowned testing and certification process.”

According to the first China Quality Conference held at Great Hall of the People in Beijing from September 15 to September 16, “quality, innovation and development” will be the major directions of industrial development in China. With Chinese exports moving from an old generation of “Made in China”  to a new generation of  “Innovated in China”, the third party testing and certification industry will play an extraordinary role in the future. Therefore, CSA Group will continue to comply with policies and market development in China so as to provide more localized, professional, efficient, one-stop services for local manufacturers exporting to North American and global markets with emphasis on quality, sustainability and safety of their products.

“Asia, including China, has become an important trading partner of North America and will continue to grow in the future, ” said Jiang Yi, Vice President, CSA Group, China & Hong Kong in his presentation. “CSA Group will continue to apply our technical knowledge and expertise  in standards development, product testing and certification services to provide Chinese and Asian companies with innovative, efficient and diversified localized services and assist them as they enter North American and global markets.”

China has become Canada’s second largest trading partner. In 2013, two-way merchandise trade between the two countries reached $73.2 billion and accounted for 7.7 per cent of Canada’s world trade, according to Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada released on November 10, 2014 1.  North America is the most important export region for household appliances, household articles, gas, cables and explosion proof products from China. North American countries have strict regulations on consumer goods and industrial products.  Due to a lack of understanding of international laws and regulations, Chinese exporters frequently suffer losses because of violations. Therefore, domestic producers depend more on international testing and certification organizations. Before exporting, products must undergo mandatory testing and certifications processes to deal with complex trade barriers and help reduce the risk of illegal exportation.

With one third global investment in China, CSA Group has established laboratories in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen with a full range of product testing and certification services for global markets, including Europe and North America. In the future, CSA Group will accelerate investments and expand local services in gas & plumbing, industrial products , hazardous locations,  health care, medical, and sustainable energy in order to meet the increasing requirements of clients in these areas in China .
