On May 24, 2022 the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published in the Federal Register that the DOE determined that the energy conservation standards for unfired hot water storage tanks (UHWSTs) do not need to be amended. The DOE indicated that it lacks clear and convincing evidence that more-stringent standards for UHWSTs would save a significant additional amount of energy and would be economically justified.

The effective date is July 25, 2022.
