Malaysia (MCMC) - Allocation of Spectrum Bands for 5G

Effective December 31, 2019

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) released the final report on the allocation of spectrum bands for mobile broadband service.

The final report was issued on December 31, 2019 and stated MCMC’s final position on spectrum allocation matters, in relation to 700 MHz, 2300 MHz and 2600 MHz spectrum bands that was published on September 29, 2019.

The frequency bands identified for the roll out of 5G (“5G pioneer bands”) are as follows:

  • 700 MHz band
  • 3.4 GHz to 3.6 GHz (“3.5 GHz band”)
  • 24.9 GHz to 28.1 GHz (“26/28 GHz bands”)

The existing allocation for deployment of current 4G technology will be maintained. This includes maintaining the existing allocation of the 2300 MHz and 2600 MHz bands until December 2021. MCMC will undertake the necessary review of these bands in 2021.
