Australia Safety Standard and Mobile Equipment Standard Changes
ACMA published the following telecommunications technical standards under section 376 of the Telecommunications Act 1997.
The Telecommunications (Mobile Equipment Air Interface) Technical Standard 2018
The new Mobile Equipment Standard 2018, has been adopted revising previous industry standards.
- AS/CA S042.1:2018 – Requirements for connection to an air interface of a Telecommunications Network – Part 1: General; and
- AS/CA S042.4:2018 – Requirements for connection to an air interface of a Telecommunications Network – Part 4: IMT Customer Equipment.
The Telecommunications (Customer Equipment Safety) Technical Standard 2018
ACMA allows a four-year transition period until Feb 15, 2022. Suppliers can choose to comply with either AS/NZ 60950-1:2015 or AS/NZS 62368-1:2018 during the transition period.
- AS/NZS 60950.1:2015 – Information technology equipment – Safety, Part 1: General requirements (the 2015 industry standard); and
- AS/NZS 62368.1:2018 – Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment – Part 1: Safety requirements (the 2018 industry standard).
