Preface
Considerable interest has been shown by Canadian authorities and agencies for the prevention of industrial accidents in the possibility of establishing a national standard respecting equipment for protection of the head and eyes. The manufacturers, suppliers, and users of such equipment have evinced similar interest.
Consequently, the Canadian Standards Association invited representative authorities and companies interested in such equipment to name individuals willing to undertake the development of a code to serve as the basis for good Canadian practice in the supply and utilization of such protective devices.
An appropriate Committee representative of all interested groups was appointed by the Association Executive in 1945 and is known as the Committee on Code for Head and Eye Protection.
This Code has been developed as a uniform Canadian standard. In preparing this standard, the Committee on Code for Head and Eye Protection has benefited in large measure from the close co-operation and the experience of the National Research Council of Canada. Further, the Committee has carefully considered existing comparable standards.
This Code was formally approved by Letter Ballot by the Committee 0n Code for Head and Eye Protection in June, 1948, and by the Main Committee with authority to publish it as a C.S.A. standard in July, 1948.
Scope
This Code deals with protectors to be worn or held by workers for the protection of the head and eyes. It is not intended that the provisions of this Code should restrict in any way the genuine improvement of protectors. This Code does not cover specifications for respiratory protection or for guards at or on a machine at a point of operation.
