In March 1970, CSA received a .request to develop a national standard on permanently installed power operated scaffolding used in window washing. This request was prompted by the increase in constrution of high rise buildings which in many cases are sealed to provide a controlled internal environment The windows on the building face have to be washed from the outside and proper equipment is required to facilitate maintenance of windows on a regular basis.
Scope
1.1 This Code applies to the design, construction, installation, operation, inspection, test, maintenance, alteration, and repair of powered plafforms but does not apply to automated window cleaning mechanisms which are designed so as not to permit transportation of workmen. Automatic window cleaning mechanisms which are designed to permit the transportation of workmen shall wiiform to this Code. Notes: 1. Powered platforms are recommended for use on buildings and structures over 100 feet in height. 2. Portable powered platforms are not recommended for travel exceeding 300 feet.
1.2 This Code does not apply to manually operated platforms.
