Preface
This new edition of CSA Standard A233 supersedes A23.3—1959, and includes many changes from that edition. The Standard is now identical with the Reinforced Concrete Section of the National Building Code of Canada.
The A23 Standard, of which this Standard forms a part, is divided into three parts as follows:
A23.1 Concrete Materials and Methods of Construction;
A232 Methods of Test for Concrete; and
A23.3 Code for the Design of Plain 0r Reinforced Concrete Structures.
The most important changes are the introduction of ultimate strength design in parallel with working stress design, major revisions to the sections dealing with design of columns and design for shear, and provision for the use of reinforcement with yield strengths up to 75,000 psi.
This Standard was prepared by a joint Committee of the Canadian Standards Association and the National Building Code, and was approved by this Committee, the CSA Sectional Committee on Structures, and the CSA Technical Council.
Scope
