Course Overview
CSA Z462:21 specifies requirements for an employer’s electrical safety program, the objective of which is promoting the practical safety of workers that could be exposed to electrical hazards during the performance of their duties. Such requirements include an electrical safety policy that emphasizes hazard elimination, and an electrical hazard risk assessment procedure that addresses human performance and incorporates the hierarchy of risk control methods. In addition, the Standard sets out criteria for the identification and training of qualified electrical workers. and the selection of electrical hazard personal and other protective equipment.
The training includes a review of all relevant clauses and major revisions in the 2021 edition of the Z462 standard. Each section of the course is designed around specific learning objectives that stress the practical application of the Standard’s requirements by means of lecture, discussion and exercises.

Daniel Roberts
Daniel Roberts has over 30 years of experience in the electrical field as a field service technician, a safety manager, and an electrical safety consultant. He has developed and taught electrical safety courses for CSA since 2007. Daniel received the CSA Award of Merit in 2013 for sustained and influential contributions to Occupational Health & Safety and Electrical Safety Standards. He has served for over 20 years on various CSA Standards Technical Committees and Subcommittees. He currently serves on the CSA Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety and the Canadian Electrical Code Part I Executive Committees, and the CSA Z45001 Technical Committee. Daniel is an IEEE Senior Member and the Chair of the IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Committee. He has authored several articles on the topic of electrical safety that have been published in IEEE Industry Applications and IEEE Transactions peer reviewed journals.
Kirk Gray
Kirk Gray has over 30 years of experience working as an engineer and is currently employed by Hydro-Quebec. He holds a degree from the École de technologie supérieure, a constituent establishment of the Université du Québec located in Canada. Kirk sits on various technical committees and subcommittees, notably CSA Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety, CAN/ULC801 Standard on Electric Utility Workplace Electrical Safety for Generation, Transmission and Distribution, and IEEE 1584.1 Guide for Specification of Scope and Deliverable Requirements. Kirk is a team lead for the Z462 technical committee, and he belongs to the the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. He is also a member of IEEE and actively participates in the writing of technical papers.
