We are pleased to announce that we have converted this course to a virtual, instructor-led format. Virtual courses may take place over several days in half day sessions. We have redesigned all our courses to maximize learning in a virtual environment. Students will still have the opportunity to participate and interact with the instructor. Virtual Training – Virtual PM sessions will be delivered 13:30 – 17:30 ET. Each Attendee participates in the live, instructor-led sessions via a dedicated desktop or laptop. Tablet and Mobile are not compatible to the CSA Group’s Webex Training sessions.

This newly updated two-day course provides an in-depth review of the requirements for process piping systems, including overviews and applications of both the CSA B51:19 Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Pressure Piping Code and the ASME B31.3-2016 (*referenced edition in CSA B51:19). It includes content on several new CSA B51 requirements and covers topics on both codes from initial design to in-service management.
Participants will explore how the two codes are related and will learn best practices on pressure systems to help ensure safety and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Gain a solid understanding of the inter-relationship of CSA B51:19 - Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Pressure Piping Code and ASME B31.3-2016 - Process Piping Code from design through to operational control and in-service management.
- Understand how CSA B51 guidelines are used to help define minimum legal requirements in Canada with specific attention to code adoption and the differences between various jurisdictions.
- Learn about the overall code structure, including new code clauses, communicate the proper application of tables, annexes and locate cross-referenced documentation.
- Distinguish the differences between the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and the ASME B31 piping standards through an explanation of content and proper application of tables and annexes using ASME B31.3-2016 as the primary example.
- Understand the framework required to establish an ASME Weld Procedure using the ASME Boiler and Pressure Code and communicate how to determine the correct Registration Authority
- Learn the importance of the construction requirements as part of an integral system including design, material selection, joining and construction. Testing requirements and non-destructive examination will also be addressed.
- Communicate and duplicate testing requirements and non-destructive examination.
- Apply the use of quality systems in the design and construction of process piping systems.

Brian Krasiun, P. Eng.
Having obtained degrees in both Engineering and Administration from the University of Regina, Brian had served over 19 years within the Province of Saskatchewan's pressure equipment safety programs. During this period he had held a number of technical, managerial, and executive capacities including spending a number of years developing, implementing, and providing public education on integrity management requirements for the design, construction, installation and inspection of pressure equipment. Since 2005 he has been actively participating on CSA's B51 (pressure equipment) and B52 (refrigeration) technical committees, as well as a number of ASME quality assurance standard and accreditation committees. Recognized as an authority on pressure equipment safety and integrity management, Brian is currently the Principal Engineer for ASFALEIA Inspection & Management Services Ltd, a Saskatchewan based corporation that provides inspection and integrity management services to a number of provincial government and private sector clients.
