This two day course has been designed for industry professionals with a prior working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code through previous experience or training, and who are looking to enhance their skills by participating in an in-depth review of the Code. With a focus on navigating commonly used sections, rules and regulations, this course provides a comprehensive review of key changes to the 2015 edition, and how they can impact existing installations, or the use of newer efficiency-enhancing technologies.
Who Should Attend?
Workshop attendees are strongly advised bring a copy of the 2015 Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, to their scheduled session, as it will be frequently referenced during the course.
Bill has been in the electrical industry for over 50 years. He received his Electrical Journey Person License in 1968 and worked for several Electrical Contractors before starting with Manitoba Hydro in 1971. In 1976 he started as an Electrical Inspector for Manitoba Hydro working the area from Winnipeg to the US border. He became supervisor of Electrical Inspectors in 1993.
In 2000- 2006 – He was the Chief Electrical Inspector at Manitoba Hydro representing Manitoba Hydro on the Advisory Council on Electrical Safety and the Provincial Licensing Board. He worked with other inspection authorities across Canada to develop consistent interpretations and application to the Electrical Code. He is a past director of the Education committee with Manitoba Electric League, also past president Canadian section International Association Electrical Inspectors IAEI.
He is a representative on several code committees of the CEC Part 1 and, from 2006 to present, an instructor for CSA Learning Centre on Electrical Code related training.
Don is President of Donald R McNichol Consulting Inc., which provides consultation services, develops courses, and trains electricians, engineers, electrical contractors and inspectors across Canada.
Don has provided his expertise to associations such as the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, the Electrical Skills Board of Ontario, the Ontario Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Ontario Electric League, Waterloo Regional Electric League, Waterloo District School Board, and the Electrical Apprenticeship Program at Conestoga College.
Don has held positions with Ontario Hydro Electrical Inspection and the Electrical Safety Authority as an inspector, supervisor, code information specialist, and plan reviewer. Prior to electrical inspection, he was involved in commercial, institutional, industrial and residential projects as an electrician, supervisor, estimator, project manager and an electrical contractor.
Dave J. Heron
Dave Heron is a Certified Electrical Inspector, by the International Association of Electrical Inspectors with extensive experience in the electrical industry including: Sixteen years Technical Advisor with the Electrical Safety Authority, nine years supervising Electrical Inspector with the Electrical Safety Authority, three years Journeyman Electrical Inspector with the Electrical Safety Authority and ten years as a Senior Estimator, and Project Coordinator.
Dave is an active member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors since 1987. Dave has provided technical support for electrical inspectors, contractors and electrical designers. He has also served as a lliaison for ESA and the various Field Evaluation Agencies accredited by Standards Council of Canada operating in the province of Ontario.
Dave has worked as a member and chairman in several electrical related organizations such as: IAEI Electrical Inspector Certification Board Canadian Section, and Chairman, Examination Committee, IAEI Canadian Section.
Dave is affiliated with the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, Canadian Association of Fire Investigators and Ontario Electric League.
Virginia Pohler is a Red Seal Construction Maintenance (309A) and Industrial (442A) Electrician, Master Electrician, Industrial Electronics Technician, Certified Canadian Electrical Inspector and Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator. She has a range of industry experience including commercial, institutional, power generation, and heavy industrial construction. She has worked as a project foreman in the automotive sector, as a college professor teaching electrical apprenticeship at Fanshawe College and Conestoga College, for CSA Group as a full time electrical trainer and consultant and for the Electrical Safety Authority as an Inspector and electrical trainer. She now works in the private sector doing electrical training and consulting with Donald R. McNichol Consulting Inc.
