Preface
This is the first edition of CSA Z617, Personal protective equipment (PPE) for blunt trauma.
This Standard has been developed with support from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, the Correctional Service of Canada, the Canadian Professional Police Association, and the Canadian Police Research Centre. Special credit is given to Biokinetics and Associates Ltd. who conducted the research necessary to develop and confirm the test procedures and apparatus described in this Standard.
This Standard was prepared following an in-depth examination and assessment of the actual and perceived threats faced by correctional and law enforcement officers. Cognizance has also been taken of other operational requirements. This Standard is a reflection of the state of the art in body and limb protective equipment.
This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.
