Scope
1.1.1 This standard applies to newly produced manually operated shut-off valves for gas piping systems and constructed of entir ely new, unused parts and materials which:
(a) are intended for use downstream of the distributors meter or regulator, for operation at a maximum pressure of 1/2 psig (3.4 kPa),
(b) are capable of operation at ambient temperatures between 32°F (0°C) and 125°F (52°C) and in addition are also capable of operation at a higher temperature, a lower temperature or both when so specified by the manufacturer,
(c) are valves substantially of the plug and body, or rotating disc t ype, and valves of other types which will provide equivalent performance.
1.1.2 Constructional provisions for spring loaded type manually operated gas shut-off valves are covered in Part 2 Spring Loaded Type Valves-Construction.
Performance provisions for spring loaded type manually operated gas shut-off valves are covered in Part 3 Spring Loaded Type Valves-Performance.
Constructional provisions for solid bottom type manually operated gas shut-off valves are covered in Part 4 Solid Bottom Type Valves-Construction.
Performance provisions for solid bottom type manually operated gas shut-off valves are covered in Part 5 Solid Bottom Type Valves-Performance.
1.1.3 Room temperature, when specified in this standard, shall be considered at 77 ± 10°F (25 ± 5.6°C).
1.1.4 This standard contains SI (Metric) equivalents to the y ard/pound quantities, the purpose being to allow the standard to be used in SI (Metric) units. If a value for a measurement as given in this standard is followed by an equivalent value in other u nits, the first stated is to be regarded as the requirement. The given equivalent may be approximate. If a value for a measurement and an equivalent value in other units are both specified as a quoted marking requirement, the first stated unit, or both units shall be provided.
