1. Scope and Purpose
1.1 Scope
1.1.1
This Standard applies to packaged heat-recovery ventilators that comprise factory-assembled elements including fans in which heat is transferred between two isolated air-streams, and that are intended for use in ducted supply and exhaust systems.
1.1.2
This Standard prescribes methods for rating the sensible and total thermal effectiveness, the air-movement capacities, and the leakage of air from one air-stream to another for heat- recovery ventilators.
1.1.3
All units tested under this Standard shall have a maximum rated capacity of not less than 25 L/s (50 ft³/min) and not more than 200 L/s (400 ft³/min) with a tolerance of ±5% or ±5 L/s (±10 ft³/min), whichever is greater. The laboratory facilities shall be capable of testing a unit in the complete range between the minimum and maximum rated air-handling capacity of that unit.
1.1.4
This Standard does not apply to mechanical vapor- compression equipment (eg, heat pumps).
1.1.5
The values given in parentheses are provided for information only.
1.2
Purpose. The purpose of this Standard is to
(a) establish a uniform method of testing for performance data; (b) specify data, calculations to be used, and report data; and (c) list and define terms used in this Standard.
