Scope
1.1 Connectors Included
This Standard applies to the following types of masonry connectors:
(a) ties used to interconnect the wythes of a wall;
(b) ties used to attach masonry veneer to its structural backing;
(c) anchors used to connect masonry walls to intersecting walls or to other structural members;
(d) anchors used to attach stone to its structural backing or to i nterconnect stone;
(e) fasteners used to secure masonry ties and anchors to structural elements; and
(f) repair connectors used in the restoration or improvement of existing masonry wall systems.
1.2 Connectors Excluded
This Standard does not apply to
(a) connectors for precast concrete;
(b) connectors for prefabricated masonry panels; or
(c) fasteners used to attach equipment or fixtures to buildings.
1.3 Loads
Loads acting on connectors shall be determined in accordance with CSA Standard CAN3-S304 or S304.1.
1.4 Construction
Installation of masonry connectors shall be in accordance with CSA Standard A371.
1.5 Types of Connectors
This Standard recognizes three types of masonry connectors, as follows:
(a) conventional connectors;
(b) nonconventional connectors; and
(c) repair connectors.
Conventional connectors shall comply with the requirements of Clause 9 and all other Clauses of this Standard, except Clauses 10 and 11. Nonconventional connectors shall comply with the
requirements of Clause 10 and all other clauses of this Standard, except Clauses 9 and 11. Repair connectors shall comply with the requirements of Clause 11 and all other clauses of this Standard, except Clauses 9 and 10.
