CSA International and Bortex Industry Co. Ltd., Announce the Expanded Voluntary Recall of Seasonal Decorative Outdoor Thirty Five-Bulb LED Light Strings

CSA International, in co-operation with Bortex Industry Company Ltd., announces an expansion to their previously announced voluntary recall dated December 16, 2005 of seasonal decorative 35-bulb outdoor LED light strings sold in Canada. The originally affected products have the model number “COD-TL-35”, the CSA File number 228296 with 07/2005 identified on a white label attached to the string’s cord, and a red CSA label with the number 228296. The expanded voluntary recall applies to the same model number (COD-TL-35) and red CSA File number (228296), but is now extended to products with the number 06/2005 identified on the white label attached to the string’s electrical cord. The affected light strings were sold by retailers between August and December 2005 under various brand names and also distributed by several utilities across Canada.

A manufacturing defect may cause a malfunction of the light string resulting in overheating and possible melting in the encapsulated area of the light string. The affected light strings may pose a potential for a shock or fire hazard. To date there have been no reports of injury or property damage involving the light strings.

Only the outdoor 35-bulb LED light string model COD-TL-35 with date coding of 06/2005 and 07/2005 on the white label near the attachment plug is affected by this recall. No other LED light strings produced by this or other manufacturers are affected by this recall.

Consumers who have purchased these light strings should stop using them immediately and return the light strings to the source of purchase.
