DeWalt: Industrial Tool Co. And CSA International Announce Voluntary Recall to Repair Models DW124 and DW124K 1/2 Drills

In cooperation with CSA International, DEWALT Industrial Tool Co., of Baltimore, Md., is voluntarily recalling for repair about 180 Models DW124 and DW124K 1/2″ Stud & Joist electric drills. The switches on these drills, which were manufactured by Eaton Corp. of Cleveland, Ohio, can stick. The drills can continue to operate after the trigger is released, posing a risk of injury to consumers.

DEWALT has not received any reports of injuries with these drills in Canada. This recall is being conducted to help prevent the possibility of injury.

The affected drills have switches that are being recalled by the switch manufacturer Eaton Corp. and are model number DW124 and DW124K. The model numbers are located on the nameplate on the side of the drill’s housing. The drills are yellow with black accents. The recalled drills have date codes from 0021 through 0110. The date code is stamped onto the drill body beneath the gearbox. Drills with DRC etched after the date code already have had the switch replaced.

No other DEWALT drills are involved in this recall.

Industrial tool distributors sold these drills throughout Canada from May 2000 through March 2001 for between $459 and $549.

Consumers should stop using these drills immediately, and take your drill to the nearest DEWALT service center to have the switch replace free of charge.
