CSA International and Milwaukee Electric Tool Canada Announce Voluntary Recall of Automotive Battery Charger, Cat. No. 48-59-0184

In co-operation with CSA International, Milwaukee Electric Tool Canada, of Scarborough, Ontario is voluntarily recalling automotive battery charger, Cat. No. 48-59-0184. This automotive battery charger is designed to charge NiCd and NiMH batteries used with certain cordless “Power Plus” Milwaukee tools using a 12 Volt automotive battery source.

Milwaukee Electric Tool Canada has found that this battery charger can overheat, posing a risk of fire hazard that could result in personal injury or property damage. To date there have been no reports of injury or property damage.

Approximately 18,000 units were manufactured between June 1999 and March 2002. They were sold in various retail outlets in Canada and the United States.

A label on front of the charger reads, “Milwaukee…POWER-PLUS 9.6 Volt – 18 Volt AUTOMOTIVE CHARGER.” A nameplate on the back of the charger lists the catalogue number.

If you have one of these chargers, stop using it immediately and return it to the nearest Milwaukee Authorized Service Centre or Milwaukee Electric Tool Canada for exchange for a new one or a substitute battery pack.
