  1. Describe your CSA Group career journey.

I was born and raised in Zimbabwe, a beautiful country located on the southern tip of Africa. My life in Zimbabwe was very pleasant and I enjoyed a strong connection to my community. It wasn’t until I came across an article about a country called Canada in my high school geography class that I considered leaving home. But once I learned about Canada, I knew that I would call it home one day. In 2000, I made the move.

My career with CSA Group started in March 2002, when I was hired through the security company that I was employed with to work at CSA Group’s head office in Toronto. Working in the security office, I met many people and learned about the organization’s mission of making the world a safer and more sustainable place to live. I was not yet technically a CSA Group employee, but I became determined to work for the organization one day.

In June 2008, I accepted a position within CSA Group’s Building Services department as a Facilities Assistant. I was fortunate to work with a group of dedicated, helpful and supportive colleagues during this time. I continued to learn about the organization and the technical aspects of the business really appealed to me. I initiated conversations with my manager and human resources, who recommended that I consider taking advantage of the company’s tuition reimbursement program to gather the educational background I needed for a position in the lab. After studying electronics at George Brown College part-time, I graduated with my diploma in electronics engineering in 2017. In short order, I applied and was offered a position in the Appliances Lab where I now work as Laboratory Technician Level II.

  2. What is a typical day at work like for you?

Every work day in the lab brings a different experience and set of challenges. I often find myself multitasking, tackling a handful of projects at once while balancing work in the lab with email and phone calls with various stakeholders. My day-to-day tasks and the strong relationships that I’ve fostered during my time at CSA Group bring me so much personal satisfaction and a real sense of accomplishment.

  3. What is the most rewarding aspect of your role at CSA Group?

Although we cannot control the outcome of tests or inspections, what we can always offer to customers is exceptional customer service. Personally, the most rewarding aspect of my role is when projects are delivered on time (or early) and when customers share positive feedback on the service we provided.

  4. If you could describe working at CSA Group in one word, what would it be? Why?

Astounding. The work environment is so energizing and it also motivates the employees to achieve business and performance goals. The organization encourages employees to share their own personal ideas and opinions on how to continuously grow the business. My contributions are always heard and respected.

  5. Why is CSA Group a great place to work?

CSA Group is a purpose driven organization, which contributes to a very positive culture and work environment. It also attracts individuals with similar values. CSA Group is also committed to building a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace, which I appreciate.
