Claudia Ibarra

Certifier II (Wire & Cable)

Following a trip to CSA Group’s Canadian headquarters as a customer, Claudia Ibarra quickly realized that it was the type of organization that she wanted to plant her roots. Relocating from Mexico, Claudia joined the organization in 2018 as a certifier and has quickly established herself not only a go-to technical expert, but an invaluable contributor to many other initiatives including CSA Group’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council.

  1. Describe your CSA Group career journey.

Before joining CSA Group, I worked in Mexico as a certification engineer for an appliance manufacturer. While working in this role, I had the opportunity to visit CSA Group’s appliance labs in Toronto to prepare for and witness the start of a test. Very quickly I decided that I wanted to move to Canada and grow my career at CSA Group. It seemed like an amazing place to work. After returning home to Mexico, I started my journey to immigrate to Canada. I arrived in Canada in October 2017 and joined CSA Group in July 2018 as a Certifier I (Wire & Cable). Since then, I have worked very hard to obtain all the possible qualifications and training to advance in the testing and certification industry.

  2. What is a typical day at work like for you?

A certifier’s day can get very hectic, between reviewing lab reports, answering phone calls and emails from internal and external clients, working on projects or quotes, attending meetings, and completing training. Certifiers also support other departments like sales and post-certification. It’s very busy, but I enjoy the challenge. Although my schedule is packed, I also participate in CSA Group’s Employee Resource Groups, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion activities and other internal initiatives. Making time for these initiatives is important to me as they allow me to meet colleagues from across the organization and contribute to strengthening the organization’s culture.

  3. What is the most rewarding aspect of your role at CSA Group?

My clients and closest colleagues bring me joy every day. There is nothing more rewarding than supporting a client on their certification journey or having the opportunity to work and learn from my amazing colleagues.

  4. If you could describe working at CSA Group in one word, what would it be? Why?

Collaborative. I enjoy collaborating with my colleagues and my clients on different projects. Working with my closest colleagues has helped me understand the various areas of our business and working directly with clients has helped me gain technical knowledge of their products. It is great when we all bring ideas to the table and come up with possible solutions to any given issue.

  5. Why is CSA Group a great place to work?

CSA Group offers great work-life balance, including flexible work arrangements for many roles. At the beginning of COVID-19, I began working from home more frequently which has allowed me to accomplish more professional and personal goals. It has not only allowed me to focus on my work and complete more day-to-day tasks, I have also been able to spend more time with my family and friends.
