CSA Group’s service options and expert guidance help streamline your ability to obtain the CSA marks for your products. Depending on how much control you’d like over the process, your options will vary. You can choose one of our four certification programs outlined below:
1. Model certification
Our most popular certification option: You provide the product samples and we’ll take care of the rest. With model certification, CSA Group tests your products at our facilities and issues the certificate of compliance for qualified products indicating that your product can now display the applicable CSA mark(s).
2. Witnessed manufacturer's testing for certification
With witnessed manufacturer's testing for certification (WMTC), your staff conducts all tests in the presence of a CSA Group technical representative who documents the results. Once the product has met all requirements, CSA Group will issue you the certificate of compliance, indicating that your product can now display the applicable CSA mark(s).
3. Supervised manufacturer's testing for certification
With supervised manufacturer's testing for certification (SMTC), you conduct all tests and prepare the certification reports. CSA Group validates your data, conducts spot-checks to validate the results and issues you the certificate of compliance for qualified products.
How to qualify for SMTC
Before qualifying for SMTC, your testing facility and proposed testing process will be audited. Once approved, CSA Group will continue to audit your facility on an ongoing basis.
For manufactures of gas-fired products, the Manufacturer’s Generated Data for Gas Certification (MGDGC) program is designed to meet your particular supervised certification needs. The program benefits are the same as with SMTC. To qualify for the MGDGC program, additional personnel training may need to be conducted by CSA Group.
4. Category program for certification
The category program for certification (CPC) is designed so that you conduct your own testing at your own facility and you determine if your products meet the requirements of the standard(s). Once you have documented the testing and provided CSA Group with the testing results, we will issue the certificate of compliance for the qualified products.
How to qualify for CPC
In order to qualify for the CPC program, you will need to obtain a certificate of qualification from CSA Group demonstrating:
- Complete knowledge of all applicable product standards
- The ability to design, manufacture and test products that comply with those standards
- Access to suitable testing facilities
