CSA International, in co-operation with W. C. Wood Company announces a voluntary retrofit of approximately 24,811 Automatic Defrost Upright Freezers and Automatic Defrost All-Refrigerators. These products were manufactured between September 2002 and February 2004 under the Amana, Crosley, Whirlpool and Wood’s brands.

The defrost heater in some units can fail and cause the heater element to become exposed, resulting in a potential shock hazard. A failure can also result in deformation, melting, or burning of the interior food liner. There have been no reports of injury involving these units and this free in-home retrofit is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury.

The affected products are the Automatic Defrost 15 cubic foot, 17 cubic foot and 20 cubic foot Upright Food Freezers and the 17 cubic foot Single Door Automatic Defrost All-Refrigerator.

W. C. Woods, Company Ltd , of Guelph, Ontario is conducting the free in-home retrofit program to eliminate the potential for electrical shock. The frost-free freezers and frost-free refrigerators were manufactured between September 2002 and February 2004. The product model numbers are listed below: 

Consumers who have purchased a similar unit prior to September 2002, are not affected by this retrofit program.

Consumers who are on record, from Product Registration or Warranty cards, as having purchased one or more of these products will be contacted by telephone or mail. Consumers who have not been contacted or who have questions regarding these products and the free in-home retrofit, are encouraged to call the recall hot line Toll free number 1-866-493-3314 or visit the recall web site www.freezer-repair.com  to confirm if their product is subject to this retrofit program.
