CSA International and In-Sink-Erator Announce Recall to Repair Instant Hot Water Dispensers

In cooperation with the CSA International, In-Sink-Erator, of Racine, Wisconsin, is voluntarily recalling about 252,000 half-gallon instant hot water dispensers manufactured prior to 1997 and distributed primarily in the U.S. Water can leak from the metal holding tank, wet insulating material and cause electrical arcing and heat build-up. This poses a fire hazard. In-Sink-Erator has received four reports of holes in the electrical insulation or outer cover of the hot water dispenser. No injuries have been reported, although two resulted in kitchen fires.

The recalled hot water dispensers are half-gallon capacity models sold under various brand names, including In-Sink- Erator®, ISE®, Steamin’ Hot®, Emerson®, Dayton™, ACE™, Kenmore® and Kohler™. Consumers should check the serial number (S/N) printed on a specification label attached to the metal holding tank under the sink. This recall involves instant hot water dispensers with serial numbers (some begin with two letters) 999- 10 or those that fall between 1000 and 3084000. The instant hot water dispensers were manufactured from January 1972 through December 1996, and were sold primarily in the U.S. by plumbers, building contractors, home centers and hardware stores.

One-third gallon capacity instant hot water dispensers manufactured by In-Sink-Erator are not involved in this recall. These include Models Hot-1 and H-330 sold under In-Sink- Erator®, ISE® and Steamin’ Hot® brands, Kenmore® Models 175.60950, 175.50054 and 175.50056, and the Emerson® E-330.
