CSA International Product Alert for certain Animated Motion Lamps

CSA International is alerting the public that a number of non-certified animated motion lamps sold throughout retail locations in Central and Eastern Canada have not been tested or certified by CSA International. The packaging of the products shows an unauthorized CSA trade-mark.

The presence of this unauthorized CSA trade-mark on the packaging is misleading to consumers as it implies that the product has been tested and certified by CSA International.

The chief electrical inspector for the Province of New Brunswick has issued a public safety notice that states,
“The lamps, which have not been tested to Canadian electrical safety standards, may overheat and melt the enclosure, posing a fire hazard. There has been one reported incident of failure in the province”. The full safety notice from the Province of New Brunswick can be viewed at http://www.gnb.ca/0276/product_recalls/07-10-18-e.asp.

It is recommended that consumers stop using these non-certified products immediately and return them to the place of purchase.
